A former Salina man — who authorities say shot at officers repeatedly and held a gun to a woman’s head — was shot and killed by law enforcement officers near Udall early Thursday after leading police on a chase in south-central Kansas. Authorities said 25 year old Charles S. Johnston was armed with a handgun with an extended magazine, which he used while the car he was riding in was being chased by law enforcement through Sedgwick, Cowley and Sumner counties late Wednesday and early Thursday. Johnston had served time for multiple crimes he was convicted of in Saline County.
