Arkansas City Commissioners met this week, and voted to spend some money to put a new roof on the Agri-Business Building. Webcon, Inc. of Hutchinson, was picked to do the job, for an amount not to exceed $67,500. The work is expected to protect the building for at least the next 15 years. Ark City leaders are also looking into a new forced-air heating system for that building, which they say would include several large fans that would also make it cooler during the summer, along with LED lighting. In all, the improvements are believed to offer a savings of 30 to 40 percent in utility costs. Commissioners this week, also approved the purchase of five new portable radios for the Fire-EMS Departments, totaling $21,431, and a new phone system in City Hall to replace the outdated current system, that was installed 20 years ago. The new phone system will run $17,203.
