Cowley College will consider the possibility of creating a children’s learning center on campus for children ages 5 and younger. The college board of trustees approved conducting a feasibility study for that project during its regular meeting Monday night. Janet Davidson, director of early childhood education, described the need for a program to focus on early childhood education in Cowley County that could lead to creating a child-care center that serves Winfield, Arkansas City and surrounding communities. Davidson said the number of qualified child-care providers within the county has decreased substantially over the past few years, making it more difficult for parents who need that service. Davidson said that there was only one child-care center in operation in Winfield.
