A crucial step in the construction of a new public-safety center in Winfield was completed Monday night. The sale of the west half of the former Winfield Intermediate School to the City of Winfield was approved 3-0 by the Winfield City Commission. The city will purchase the building for $1. Negotiations have been ongoing for some time now. The Courier Traveler reports the agreement states the district will get to keep some property currently located in the building. The city agrees to provide a permanent easement on the northeast corner of the property to allow continued access to the sidewalk and east entrances of the Winfield Early Learning Center. The city will also take ownership of the memorial statue on the southwest corner of the property and provide continued access to water for the district’s building. A date for completion of the transfer has not been set.
