Winfield city commissioners on Monday approved a resolution to write a contract for the demolition of the former Winfield Intermediate School. In its place, is a planned new facility which will include the fire, EMS/ambulance and police departments under one roof. The local paper reports that the school district gave the property to the city last year. Now, construction of the new building is tentatively expected to begin sometime in the first quarter of 2019 and end in 2021. Rough cost estimates are $16 million to $20 million. Knocking down the existing structure is the first step. The former intermediate school closed in 2015. At one time it served as Winfield’s junior high. The lowest bid for demolition was offered by G&G Dozer & Equipment… at $327,365. The contract is ready, but reportedly has not yet been signed.
