A Harper County cattle buyer was cleared of fraud charges earlier this month in a Wichita federal court. Randall D. Patterson, owner of Anthony Livestock, was indicted on 14 counts of wire fraud last June. A federal judge ruled that prosecutors did not present sufficient evidence during trial to present to the jury. Court documents state that U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten granted the defense’s motion to acquit Patterson and the Anthony Livestock Co. on May 5. The prosecution claimed Patterson falsely inflated the purchase price in order to increase the amount of commission he received.
