After consulting with Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Frazee, the City of Arkansas City decided to postpone Spring Cleanup Day indefinitely for safety reasons. The event had been set to run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The wind chill at 8 a.m. however, was hovering just above single digits, and the temperature never rose above freezing until midday. That, along with predictions of wintry precipitation led to the decision. Ark City leaders say Spring Cleanup Day may be rescheduled later, but a date will not be set any earlier than the next Beautification and Tree Advisory Board meeting, which will be at 4 p.m. April 26. In the meantime, Spring Cleanup Week still will continue as planned this week throughout the city, in conjunction with normal trash pickup. As part of Spring Cleanup Week, electronic waste recycling still will be offered Saturday at 31st Century Techsupport on West Central Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can get more information about all that is going on this week, by calling the Public Works Department at (620) 441-4480.
