More fallout now from what began as a routine traffic stop in Winfield back in May. Jeremy Samuel has filed suit against the City of Winfield, claiming that his constitutional rights were violated during that traffic stop. Samuel is asking for $1 million in damages. The otherwise routine traffic stop on May 13th went viral on social media, and triggered allegations of racial profiling and harassment. Those allegations then led to the firing of a Winfield police officer, and have now resulted in calls for the firing of the city manager over his handling of the whole thing. According to the local paper, City Manager Jeremy Willmoth says lawyers for the city are working on a response. The City of Winfield has 120 days to respond.
