An Arkansas City man was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office. 25 year old Felipe Maldonado Jr. was taken into custody following a police pursuit from Cowley County and Kay County, Okla. It started after a man complained that he was hit in the face with a gun by a Hispanic man after dropping off an Hispanic woman. He told police that he ran from the Hispanic man and was shot at four or five times. He wasn’t hit by any of the bullets, but he did require medical assistance. The Hispanic man, according to the victim, then took his car keys and fled. That man turned out to be Maldonado, and the woman with him was also implicated, although her identity has not been released by law enforcement yet. Maldonado was charged with an aggravated weapons violation by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, possession of drug use paraphernalia, driving with a canceled or suspended license, possession of stolen property, transporting an open container of alcohol, no insurance, reckless driving and no drug tax stamp. He was also charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Maldonado was placed in the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $63,900 bond. His female accomplice is still being sought for questioning.
