It’s 24 months of probation for an Arkansas City man. He could have been facing some serious jail time. 18 year old Joseph Regnier was arrested in October on suspicion of burglary and theft. Not long after that arrest, Regnier entered into a plea deal with prosecutors that blunted his exposure to significant jail time. But, while he was being held by the Ark City Police, he escaped by manipulating a lock on the holding room door. He was recaptured shortly after that, but escaped again. Those escapes added additional charges. The plea agreement reached Monday, alters the original charges. Yesterday, Regnier pleaded guilty to non-residential burglary. In return, the count of theft was dismissed and the last count was amended to obstruction of official duty. Regnier’s sentence also includes a 12-month post-release supervisory period.
