An Arkansas City man has been arrested in connection with suspected child abuse and endangerment of a child. 37 year old Eric Brown is now facing two felony counts each of abuse of a child and criminal use of weapons, plus one felony count of aggravated endangering a child. Brown was also charged with one felony count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a stimulant, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of marijuana, and possession of a stimulant. His arrest is in connection with an incident that happened earlier this month, when Ark City Police officers were called to South Central Kansas Medical Center for a report of a 20-month-old child who was brought in to the emergency room by Brown, and was suffering from severe burns. Hospital emergency personnel then reported the injuries to police, due to their severity and suspicious nature. Investigators got a search warrant for Brown’s residence, where they discovered an illegal firearm and items relating to drug use. The child has since been taken to a hospital in Wichita hospital, where he still is being treated for severe burns and remains a patient. When officers contacted Brown again this week he was found to be in possession of more illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, so he was locked up in the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $76,000 bond.
