In Arkansas City, tonight the commissioners will hear a first reading of a resolution to renew a professional services agreement between the City and City Attorney Tamara Niles. That will take place tonight at 5:30 at the meeting that is scheduled to be held in the commission room at City Hall. The meeting is open to everyone.
Niles began her work with the city when the former city attorney, Otis Morrow, retired in 2005. The original agreement was renewed in 2009, and amended in 2010 to include a four-year term. Now, several changes have been negotiated for the prospective renewal, including the fact that the agreement would now become a year-to-year agreement, with the ability of either party to terminate it by 90-day notice. The yearly fee was also removed.
