The National Weather Service in Wichita has upgraded Cowley County into a Winter Storm Warning until 6PM today. The weather service warns that ice accumulations may exceed one-quarter of an inch between the Kansas Turnpike and the Flint Hills. Snow and sleet accumulations are expected to reach 4 to 8 inches, mainly along and west of a line extending from Anthony to Hutchinson to Salina. The storm system is expected to create slippery roads especially on overpasses, and with it is the potential for downed tree branches and power lines. Strong north winds will create blowing and drifting snow, which will further reduce visibility. Snow is expected to be heavy at times throughout the day today, and travel is not advised unless necessary.
