The US Department of Labor has released information, saying that Creekstone Farms has been cited and fined for several safety violations involving hazardous chemicals. Although the fine was for violations that were discovered during an inspection tour back in April 2018, the fines have just been announced. It stems back to when a compliance officer for OSHA found 12 serious safety violations. The local beef processing plant was fined $140,428. Creekstone contested the penalties, and the fine was later reduced to $49,736. All the violations reportedly involved unsafe practices relating to ammonia… a hazardous chemical used in cleaning and meat processing that can lead to asphyxiation, explosion and flash fire.
