The end is approaching for the Salvation Army store in Ark City. The Salvation Army Thrift Store on North Summit Street, will close permanently this Saturday. The decision to shutter the local store was made after it was determined that the building is in disrepair, and the cost to bring it back into shape would not be worth it. The Salvation Army says it is still reviewing their best options to serve the people of Arkansas City, and they remain committed to providing assistance to anyone in Cowley County that needs their help. They plan to host a commodities distribution on Thursday, July 30, before moving all social services to a nearby location. Those seeking assistance with food, rent, utilities, prescriptions and other financial needs may call (620) 441-0233 to set up an appointment. The Salvation Army will continue to operate as a full-service Red Shield Service Center at its Main Street location in Winfield.
