Lots of things are going on today to help to commemorate Memorial Day in Arkansas City. The theme this year is “We Must Not Forget”. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will have a special service at 10 a.m. at the Spencer-Ralston grave at Riverview Cemetery. The American Legion will hold a service at 10:15 at the Shelton-Beaty grave at the cemetery. Two events will be held at the Eternal Flame at Memorial Lawn Cemetery — one by the American Legion at 10:40 a.m., and an Army Mothers service shortly after at 10:50. There will be a memorial service at 11:15 a.m. at the East Madison Avenue bridge, sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 and the VFW Auxiliary.
Hope Cemetery also will have a memorial service at 10 at Mt. Zion Church. The annual Avenue of Flags will be sponsored at Riverview Cemetery by the VFW and at Memorial Lawn Cemetery by the American Legion.
