A reported kidnapping in our area had a happy ending, with the child reunited with its mother, and all are safe. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident that took place Tuesday, beginning in Newkirk, Oklahoma and ending in Arkansas City. It began when Newkirk Police responded to a 911 report of a kidnapping at Jiffy Trip in Newkirk, where a mother reported that her 3-month-old daughter had been taken by her boyfriend. A widespread search was initialized, and Newkirk Police contacted Cowley County authorities to help locate the child. An alert was sent out to all area law enforcement and emergency services agencies, and police in Ark city checked out some known addresses… but there was not sign of the man and the child. Later that day, the boyfriend… upon learning of the search efforts… contacted Newkirk Police to report that he was in Winfield, and he wanted to cooperate with law enforcement. Not long after that, the child was returned safe.
Newkirk officers interviewed the boyfriend, and they determined that it was not a kidnapping after all, and the child was returned to the care of the mother.
