Ever since the resignation of Tamara Niles back in September, Larry Schwartz has served as the city attorney for Arkansas City. Meanwhile, city officials continue their efforts to find a permanent replacement. Schwartz’s full-time job is the elected county attorney, but he has been doing dual duty, holding down the temporary assignment for about five months. When the new replacement is found, they will find a different job… The city plans to break up the job into two positions… with one doing traditional city attorney work, while the other serves as city prosecutor in municipal court. According to information released by Ark City Public Information Officer Andrew Lawson, interviews are being conducted with a number of possible candidates for both positions. Lawson says both positions will be hired by the city manager, and the contracts will then be presented to the commission for approval.
