Evelyn Shoup has pulled off something that in political circles, is often a very difficult accomplishment. Shoup has secured a seat on the Arkansas City Board of Education for four years, and she did it with an estimated 342 write-in votes. The three incumbents running for re-election in Tuesday’s general election also were re-elected to the school board. They are Marty Moulton, Mike Munson and Jon Oak. Shoup now will fill the seat left vacant by Shawn McGrew starting July 1st. In the meantime though, she will continue as a substitute teacher for USD 470.
Shoup is a retired Arkansas City teacher. She has a bachelor of arts degree from Southwestern College in Winfield and a master’s degree in education from Wichita State University. An Arkansas City native, Shoup also has served as president of the Ark City Teachers Association.
