The U.S. 77 bypass will be closed between Mill Road and South Summit Street beginning today, and running through June 14. Local through traffic will be allowed between Kansas and Mill, but southbound commercial truck traffic will be diverted west on Kansas and then south on Summit. Drivers are warned that traffic will likely increase in downtown Arkansas City for the next two weeks due to the detour. The closure is so the Kansas Department of Transportation can perform concrete patchwork on the south overpass portion of the bypass. A mill and overlay project will follow the closure in July, but that work only will require the closure of one lane at a time on the south section of the bypass.
