USD 470 has purchased one building, and is selling another. The local paper reports today, that the Arkansas City school board bought land near the high school, and on Monday when they met, they also gave final approval on a deal to sell an empty school building on East Madison Avenue. The two transactions are totally un-related. The board approved a purchase agreement for land and building owned by the local Jehovah’s Witness congregation on 15th St., near Bulldog Stadium, with a sale price of $175,284. The acquisition would allow the district to bridge two pieces of district-owned property, connecting the 25 acres to the north to the 80-acre tract that contains Bulldog Stadium. The church has agreed to sell the property as is, with all the furniture and equipment, and Wi-Fi connectivity, included. The contract was reviewed by the school district attorney, and the terms and conditions were found to be favorable. Uses may include a training center for teachers or staff and a place for holding meetings. The board also gave official approval for an agreement to sell the Lincoln School building to the Community Health Center in Cowley County for $150,000. They hope to use it as a doctor’s office in Ark City to serve southern Cowley County.
