A re-canvas of last week’s midterm election in Cowley and Sumner counties didn’t change the final results. All the winners that were said to have won when the polls closed, are still the winners… only now it is official. That includes the race for the seat in Kansas House District 79, where incumbent Democrat Ed Trimmer was narrowly defeated by Republican Cheryl Helmer, even though the final results shrunk Helmer’s winning margin to 113 votes. In Cowley County, a total of 10,675 ballots were cast out of 19,586 registered voters, a turnout of 54.5 percent. In Sumner County, 8,042 ballots were cast out of 16,854 registered voters, a turnout of 47.72 percent.
