Some big water problems in Ark City, and not all because of the weather either. A water main break in the 500 block of North Summit Stree happened around 8:45 yesterday morning, causing traffic problems for drivers trying to make it through the area. City workers had to break through asphalt, brick and concrete in the street to get to the water main. The area in which the break happened has been a trouble spot in the past. Two years ago, there was another break near to where the current break is that had to be patched. Reports say that approximately 50 to 60 gallons of water is lost per minute when a water main breaks, and in this case, workers estimated that somewhere around 30,000 gallons were lost due to the break in the old 6-inch cast iron line. The damage will result in Summit being closed off for about four days, in order to replace the concrete.
