In Witchita, police fatally shot a man who allegedly threatened to kill people at a home. According to the police report, it happened Saturday night when two officers responded to a report that a drunken man armed with a knife was attempting to go inside a home. Two officers found 23-year-old John Quintero and his 44-year-old father inside an SUV parked outside the home.
According to the Associated Press, police ordered the men to get out of the vehicle. The father complied, but his son threatened officers and refused to follow orders to show his hands and put them on the SUV.
Police say one officer used a stun gun, but it had no effect on Quintero. When he reached toward his waistband and took a step toward the officer, the other officer shot Quintero twice in his midsection. Quintero died early Sunday at a Wichita hospital.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
