Winfield City Commissioners meet today, to consider a $6,700 contract to demolish a fire-damaged house on 14th Avenue. Environmental inspector John Adams tells the Courier Traveler that the property owner has requested 10 days to remove belongings from the house, and then is interested in donating the empty lot to Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity to use as a future homesite. Adams told the local paper that he has been in touch with Habitat representatives, and they are very interested in the lot. The commission meets this afternoon at 5:30 in the Community Council Room of City Hall. This afternoon’s meeting was originally scheduled for Monday, but was moved to this afternoon due to Labor Day.
