On July 14 and July 30, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Arkansas City Police and Arkansas City Fire/EMS Departments will conduct joint emergency preparedness training at Arkansas City Middle School. As a result, residents may notice an increased presence of police vehicles, fire apparatus, ambulances, and emergency personnel at the school throughout the day. This is a planned training exercise, and there is no cause for concern. Held during summer break while students are not in session, the realistic, scenario-based training will allow police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel to strengthen communication, coordination, and response procedures in the event of a critical incident at a USD 470 school.
