The City of Ark City says Help Protect Arkansas City’s Waterways: Pick Up After Your Pet. Picking up pet waste does more than keep our parks and neighborhoods clean-it also helps protect our local waterways. When pet waste is left on the ground, rain can wash it into storm drains. Unlike sanitary sewers, storm drains flow directly into our creeks and streams through the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) without being treated. Pet waste can contribute to: • Bacteria and harmful pathogens in local waterways • Poorer water quality • Health risks for people, pets, and wildlife Here’s how you can help: • Always pick up after your pet. • Throw pet waste in a trash can. • Carry waste bags whenever you walk your pet.
