Ark City clears up sign regulations

The City of Ark City says they’ve heard the discussion and want to help clear up some questions about sign regulations in Arkansas City. Sign regulations are in place to help keep everyone safe. Signs can become a safety concern when they: • Block drivers’ views • Cover or interfere with traffic signs • Create distractions • Obstruct sidewalks • Are attached to trees or utility poles. Signs are also not permitted on public property or within public rights-of-way, including street corners, medians, sidewalks and utility strips. As a general rule of thumb, the first 7 feet from the curb is City right-of-way, and signs should not be placed within that area. Signs placed in public rights-of-way may be removed without notice.
