Arkansas City High School will move from Division II to Division III of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League (AVCTL) for football only beginning in fall 2028. The league approved USD 470’s proposal at its Nov. 4 meeting. ACHS is classified as 4A in football and will move to Division III, where the other football programs are also 4A. All other ACHS sports will remain in Division II, where they compete as 5A programs. The district proposed the change after hearing concerns from parents and community members about school size differences, player safety, and declining participation in football. The change will take effect after the league’s current two-year football scheduling cycle ends. The 2027 football season will remain unchanged.
