Around 12% of residential electric utility customers in Winfield have received upgrades to Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Initial upgrades will only include electric meters, with water and natural gas meters to be upgraded at a later time. The complete installation process is expected to take about a year. The advanced metering allows usage numbers to be read virtually, instead of requiring a meter reader to go to the residence. In addition to Winfield, around 50% of residential customers in Burden and 100% of residential customers in Dexter have received meter upgrades. The City of Winfield supplies electricity to these communities, but not other utilities.
