South Central Kansas Medical Center received more than $1.5 million from a Paycheck Protection Program loan offered by the federal government. The hospital applied for $1,511,999.91, and has an average monthly payroll of $604,799.97, with 201 employees. PPP funds do not have to be repaid if used for qualifying business expenses, including payroll. Hospital CEO Jeff Bowman issued a statement, saying that SCKMC will use the money to cover payroll expenses. The Ark City hospital has also received other relief, including more than $500,000 from the federal Department of Health and Human Services Provider Relief Fund, plus another $1 million from the City of Arkansas City back in April to cover three months worth of payroll.
