Arkansas City Police have reported a minor-injury accident in which a vehicle was struck by a bicycle, but they say they issued no citations. It happened just minutes before 6:30pm last Tuesday at the intersection of Fifth Street and Maple Avenue, where investigating officers say a sport utility vehicle westbound on Maple Avenue had apparently been hit by a bicycle being ridden southbound on Fifth Street by a 14-year-old Arkansas City girl. The bicyclist was evaluated by the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department and found to have minor injuries. She was taken by private vehicle to South Central Kansas Medical Center. The 19-year-old male driver of the SUV and his passenger were not injured. No citations were issued after police determined the SUV had the right-of-way at the intersection and the bicyclist had failed to stop or yield at the intersection. No names were released. There has been no update on the girl’s injuries.
