Amid all the cancellations over fears spawned by COVID-19, we have news today that at least one event is going to be held as planned… The 45th annual Last Run Car Show is still on for Sept. 25-27.The Ark City Tumbleweeds Club, which sponsors the event, says social distancing will be observed, and the club will work with the City-Cowley County Health Department to make sure the event is as safe as possible for those in attendance. They say it all comes down to common sense… if someone feels ill or has taken the test and not got results they need to stay home. One of the club’s main concerns about canceling the show was the loss of revenue to local merchants… many of them count on that income each year. Two major area events, the Walnut Valley Festival and the Cowley County Fair, have already been canceled and those cancellations will have a huge negative financial impact on the local economy. Meanwhile, the Arkalalah committee will decide in September whether to hold their October festival.
