The Kansas Department of Transportation has awarded an approximately $67.8 million contract for a project to renew a portion of U.S. 77 in Cowley County. This project is for pavement replacement on nearly 9 miles of U.S. 77 between Arkansas City and the Walnut River bridge on the south side of Winfield in Cowley County. Pearson Construction LLC, of Wichita, is the contractor.The project includes highway preservation, a new highway alignment on the south side of Strother Field and re-decking of the southbound bridge over the BNSF railroad. The project is part of KDOT’s Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE), a 10-year, $10 billion program focused on preserving, modernizing and expanding Kansas’ transportation system. KDOT will provide updates regarding specific construction schedules and anticipated traffic impacts as the project progresses.
