While many public places in Cowley County have begun to reopen, public libraries in Winfield and Arkansas City remain closed and are still only offering limited services. Both libraries offer curbside pickup service of materials. but only minimal staff is on duty. WiFi service is available in the parking lots. Both libraries also have grab and go activity kits available and offer online programs. The Arkansas City Public Library is also offering curbside printing and faxing services. Both local public libraries meanwhile, are reopening in stages.Winfield’s mask ordinance goes into effect tomorrow, and it may help speed up the reopening of the Winfield library. The problem is… according to health care experts… that unlike most retail stores, where people get in and get out, library patrons tend to hang out longer, creating more chance for coronavirus to be transmitted.
