On Tuesday, commissioners will hold a second reading of an ordinance that would reduce county control over South Central Kansas Medical Center. If approved, the change would mean that governance of the medical center would return to an appointed board made up of five trustees… with a maximum of two city commissioners. Tomorrow’s second reading comes after the county commissioners tabled the ordinance at their meeting on September 1st. Commissioners tomorrow will also revisit a proposal to vacate portions of Fifth Avenue and Sixth Street near Paris Park and Paris Park Pool. The Arkansas City Recreation Commission is concerned about safety in the area. Under the plan, expanded parking for the pool would instead utilize the space. Another item on Tuesday’s agenda includes one in which the Commissioners will consider a second reading of an ordinance to purchase property and a building at Strother Field at an estimated cost of $1.3 million, which if approved, would be financed through bonds by the City of Winfield.
