As of January 15, 2021, there have been 3092 positive cases of COVID-19 in Cowley County. To date, there have been 57 confirmed deaths as a result of the illness. The county has tested 11,131 people for the virus.
In the past 10 days, there have been 807 tests performed in the county, with 167 of those returning a positive test result. Of those 167, 75 are from Arkansas City, 69 are from Winfield, and the remaining 33 are from other areas of the county.
The demand for the COVID-19 vaccine continues to be high. The Health Department is finishing up Phase 1(a) of vaccine distribution and is awaiting direction from the state regarding when Phase 2 may begin. “We are hopeful that the supply of vaccine will grow so we can expand our vaccination efforts to include more people”, stated Public Health Officer Tom Langer.
There will be no update on Monday, January 18, 2021, due to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day.
