Starting Tuesday, residents in north Arkansas City and rural areas to the north may notice an odor as a local meatpacking plant refurbishes its wastewater lagoons.
Creekstone Farms Premium Beef LLC on Goff Industrial Park Road, will begin
refurbishing its lagoons this week. The maintenance is expected to continue for two to three weeks. According to City Manager Nick Hernandez, people in that area may begin to notice a strong odor. The odor he says, is harmless, although it may be somewhat unpleasant, and this will only be temporary. Creekstone will be removing sludge from the lagoons, which are located north of the processing facility between 252nd Road and Goff Industrial Park Road, and installing new lagoon covers after that work is wrapped up. Creekstone officials apologize for any inconvenience this may cause area residents and ask for their patience as they complete this necessary maintenance.
