The Farmers markets in Winfield and Arkansas City… as of now anyway… will open as planned in late May. It was announced yesterday, that the Arkansas City market will open May 26th and the Winfield market will open May 30th. Sarah Werner with the Cowley Farmers Market Association Board said they are now waiting to see what happens with the spread of the virus before making any decisions on postponing the market openings. Meanwhile, officials in some other Kansas cities have postponed farmer’s markets over concerns arising due to the COVID-19 virus. Like grocery stores, farmers markets have been deemed as “essential businesses” that can continue to operate.
