The National Weather Service out of Wichita has two Flood Warnings in effect for the Sumner/Cowley County areas.
The first Flood Warning is for the Chikaskia River at Corbin as minor flooding is in the forecast. The warning goes from Wednesday evening to Thursday night. The Chikaskia River was a 4.6 feet as of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and is expected to rise above flood stage this evening and crest near 11.3 feet Thursday morning. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow afternoon. At 10.0 feet, Flooding of low-lying areas can be expected, especially along the right bank.
The second Flood Warning is one that continues for Slate Creek at Wellington until Thursday morning. Minor flooding is in the forecast. Slate Creek was at 4.2 feet Tuesday evening and is expected to crest at 21 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage this evening.
At 20.0 feet, Flood waters cover several low lying spots along Seneca Road between 40th and 60th Street just southeast of Wellington. Woods Park within the city floods. Slate Creek comes to roadway`s edge at mile marker 15 on the the Kansas Turnpike.
