A former employee of the William Newton Memorial Hospital Credit Union has been indicted in federal court. 42 year old Audrey Elkins of Winfield is accused of embezzling almost $599,000 from the financial institution. Elkins was charged with one count of embezzlement after investigators say she created fictitious loans and converted the money to her own use. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wichita says it all happened between November 2010 and November 2017. If convicted, Elkins could face up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine.
