Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is blaming state lawmakers for the response to the COVID-19 crisis. Kelly noted that 34 other states have a statewide mask mandate, but Kansas has a “patchwork” of coronavirus regulations with each county deciding on their response. The Kansas Legislature approved a bill this past June that stripped the governor of her ability to implement statewide mandates. Lawmakers say a one size fits all regulation is not practical or realistic, as some parts of the state are minimally impacted, while others are seeing higher infection rates.
