The grand opening celebration for William Newton Hospital’s new surgical wing that had been scheduled to take place Sunday, was canceled due to a suspected case of coronavirus. According to a post on the hospital’s Facebook page, the suspected case is being tested to verify it. Some other cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Kansas and Oklahoma over the past few days. While the initial Facebook post referred to suspected cases of the virus in Cowley County and Wichita, a later pose was edited and any reference to those suspected cases was removed. Results of the coronavirus test are expected within the next several days. The hospital meanwhile, remains under the restricted visitation policy that went into effect at the beginning of the flu season.
