Cowley County firefighters responded to a house fire last evening about 6 at 20 Lakewynds Drive, east of Arkansas City. What is said to have started as a small fire in a structure attached to the house, spread to the roof of that house. The smaller structure was completely destroyed and a good part of the roof of the house required a lot of water and hard work to bring under control. Cowley County deputies closed the road to all non-emergency vehicles entering and leaving the area. There are no fire hydrants in Lakewynds, so water tankers had to be put to use. There have been so far, no reports of injuries. The fire was said to have been under control within about two hours. No estimate of damages has yet been released, and no cause has been determined.
