Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is urging lawmakers to extend a soon-to-expire deadline to enable the state to tap into available federal emergency funds and pay unemployment claims. According to a spokesperson, if lawmakers fail to extend the deadline currently set to lapse on Tuesday, it will hamper the state’s ability to respond to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kelly is reportedly urging the Republican-dominated State Finance Council to put public health concerns before politics and “make the right decision.”
