Honoring the memory of a long-time Criminal Justice instructor that helped make the program what it is today, the Elvin M. Hatfield Criminal Justice Memorial Scholarship has been created at Cowley College. Hatfield earned an associate of arts degree and an associate of applied science degree from Cowley College, a bachelor of arts degree from Southwestern College, and a master of science degree from Pittsburg State University. He continued graduate studies in Kansas Law Enforcement Academy courses, Kansas Bureau of Investigation courses, and Federal Bureau of Investigation courses. He worked in the law enforcement field before beginning his teaching career at Cowley College. At the time of his retirement from Cowley College in 2011, Hatfield was the longest tenured employee at 37 years of service. Mr. Hatfield, who was 75, passed away on June 28, 2019 at the age of 75.
