Winfield, Kansas—March 4, 2020 – Women for Kansas – Cowley County (W4K—CC) will hold their March meetup from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 14th, at the City Hall Community Council Room, 200 E 9th Ave., Winfield. The event is free and open to the public.

The meetup features a presentation by Spencer Culver, Advocacy Specialist with The Alliance for a Healthy Kansas entitled, KanCare Expansion 2020: What’s Next? He will begin by sharing the details of what Medicaid expansion is all about. He’ll give the audience an update on the actions being taken in the legislature around Medicaid expansion in Kansas and will provide a discussion on how advocates can get involved in that process.

The Alliance for a Healthy Kansas is a statewide coalition working throughout Kansas, encouraging people and organizations to promote policies that ensure everyone has the opportunity to attain their highest level of health. Their membership is wide-ranging and includes business leaders, doctors and hospitals, social service and safety-net organizations, faith communities, chambers of commerce, advocates for health care consumers, and many more. They believe by unifying everyone’s voices they won’t be ignored.

The first policy goal of the Alliance is to expand KanCare to cover more than 150,000 Kansans which would bring hundreds of millions of federal tax dollars back home. This expansion would also cover unpaid health care costs that are hurting hospitals, create thousands of jobs, and help to stimulate the Kansas economy.

“Many common-sense, conservative states have embraced expanding their Medicaid programs. If they can find state-based solutions, so can Kansas,” said Pam Moreno, W4K—CC leader.
