The Winfield board of education will be down a member as of July 1st. Craig Thompson began a four year term back in January. But Thompson has now resigned to become the assistant principal of Winfield Middle School… replacing Dr. Kaitlyn Pressnall, who will become the assistant director of the Cowley County Special Services Cooperative. He has resigned in the past too. After first being elected t the board of education in 2017, Thompson resigned two years later, in 2019, so he could apply for the job of Winfield High School principal. Although under the law he could have stayed on the board, he said at the time, his resignation was a matter of principle because he did not want to be accused of conflict of interest. Thompson will attend one more board meeting, then resign to become an employee of USD 465 on July 1st. The board will then seek applications from those who would like to fill out Thompson’s remaining term.
