The city of Winfield is applying for a grant from the Kansas Department of WIldlife, Parks and Tourism that would help to re-pave some cioty-owned trails. City leaders say they’ve heard complaints from the community recently, so they want to help improve the situation. City Manager Taggart Wall said that the recreational trails was one of the biggest priorities that was noted in the community survey that circulated last year. The city has requested a little more than 366-thousand dollars from the state. That would cover about half ot the overall 770-thousand dollar cost to make improvements to trails at Island Park and the Broadway Recreation Complex. A new trail would also be built at the levee on the west side of town, which would be called the Walnut Valley Trail.
