Courts around the country have had to adapt to new ways of handing out justice because of the coronavirus, and the 19th District Court in Cowley County is no different. The local court turned to Zoom for court appearances, and while they say they admit it does have its limits, there are also ways it could remain useful to the courts after in-person appearances are allowed again. Most attorneys have been receptive to using Zoom, even as they still have the option to have a case rescheduled for a future date in person if they think that would be more appropriate. Judges say the show up rate for virtual court dates has not been much different than the rate for live proceedings. They also say Zoom has allowed people who live far away to attend hearings without having to drive to the courthouse.
